I think chemists could also fill those roles if they were trained in a broader fashion than in the ACS sequence. But how do we convince the ACS to advocate for those changes? I could see how to make a professional degree from chemistry out of a liberal degree, but it would seem the academic resistance to change would be arrayed against it. He has seen this on grant applications, where a student applying for U.S. federal grant money sometimes is not allowed to be named as the chief investigator, but he seen this on ethics applications.I have carefully examined the Australian National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and I find no basis in the national code for such a move. How many PC notebooks of that age are still productive?I also have a (now last generation) MacBook Pro 15" i7. It replaced a desktop at work and is quite powerful. If you factor in the improved graphics on the new high-end MacBook Pros on top of the CPU improvements, the performance must be truly impressive! The science used in the Amerithrax investigation was developed and conducted by the TOP in each field. The NAS review will be done by second tier and/or by top in related fields.

What do you expect will be accomplished by having a bunch of AMATEUR DETECTIVES review the same information?

The information – scientific and otherwise – that points to Dr. Bruce Ivins as the anthrax mailer will be released when the Amerithrax investigation is officially closed. According to news that could be any day now. THAT will be the information that your amateur detectives will go crazy over.
